SKIN CANCER
Skin cancer is the growth of abnormal skin cells that are capable of invading and destroying other cells. It is the single most common type of cancer found in humans. The cause of most skin cancers is unknown, but overexposure to UV radiation (in sunlight) is a risky factor. Basel cell cancer is the most common for skin cancer, it covers 75% of skin cancer. It is the least cancerous however. In the form of skin cancer, basel cells in the epidermis are altered so they don't produce keratin. Also, it spreads invading dermis and subcutaneous layers. On sunexposed areas of the face, shiny dome-shaped lesions develop. The next common areas are the ears, backs of hands, and shoulders and arms. 99% of patients recover from this form of skin cancer.
Squamous cell carcinoma (another type of skin cancer) affects cells of the 2nd layers of the epidermis. It involves skin exposure to sun: face, ears, hands, and arms. This cancer presents itself as a small, scaling, raised bump with a crusting center, and it grows rapidly. If the lesion is caught early, the patient has a good chance in recovering.
Malignant melanoma (yet another form of cancer) is the most serious of skin cancers and takes up 5%. The cancer cells in the lower epidermis that produce melanin. Melanomas resemble mole, then expand as a black patch. The cancer spreads quickly to other parts of the body especially the liver and the lungs. Overexposure to Sun may be a cause of melanomas , but the greatest cause is genetics. If it spreads to other parts, it is almost incurable. In order to survive, you should find the cancer as early as possible.
